Classic Car Club of Southern California Mercedes-Benz Classic Center Tour
April’s tour takes place Saturday, April 27 for a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center. The Classic Center relocated from Irvine to a former McDonnel-Douglas facility in Long Beach that built DC-8, DC-9 and DC-10 jets. It has 50% more floor space than the former location, plus an additional 30,000 square feet of space used as the Vehicle Preparation Center for new, incoming Mercedes-Benz automobiles. The Center offers everything from routine service to complete concours-level restoration of vintage Mercedes- Benz vehicles. Only two of these centers exist in the entire world - one in Stuttgart, Germany, and the other is right here in Southern California. We will have a guided tour of the facility including the showroom, main workshop, parts department, upholstery shop, refinishing department and more.
We will gather at 10:00 a.m. for coffee and donuts as we socialize, check out fellow members' cars and view the classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the showroom. The guided tour will begin at 10:30 a.m. You are strongly encouraged to drive your Classic to the event. Remember, these are car people, too, and they will appreciate seeing our Classics. The cost is a nominal $20, and you must pre-register by April 20.
If you’re hungry after the tour, just walk across the street to the LBX (Long Beach Exchange) shopping mall for lunch options on your own. The food hall, The Hangar, has plenty of options with 14 eateries located here. The Hangar is described as “A 17,000-square-foot structure reminiscent of an aviation hangar of the McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing days long past when military and commercial aircraft were constructed on the site . . . now home to 14 small, artisanal food vendors and boutique retailers.”
